Support in the reconstruction of a burnt-out house in Oleiros

News date: 2 March 2022

The october 2017 forest fires in Portugal were responsible for the destruction of vast areas in the center and north of the country. The destruction spread far beyond the forest area, also affecting several first-time homes and many families.

Oleiros was one of the affected municipalities where, even today, there are houses to be rebuilt. Grupo NOV Engenharia & Construção, emphasizing the value of Social Responsibility, decided to support the reconstruction of one of these burnt-down houses.

The rebuilt house is owned by an elderly lady from the parish of Álvaro, in the municipality of Oleiros. Initially approved under the Reconstruction Support Program by the CCDRC – Commission for the Coordination and Regional Development of the Center, the reconstruction of the house would later be rejected after a reassessment of all processes, by the CCDRC, largely due to the accumulation of similar situations that needed equivalent support.

Grupo NOV's support focused on offering various materials and equipment for house reconstruction, such as stonework, ceramic coverings, flooring, interior and exterior paint, interior doors, tiles and other sanitary equipment. All the materials were transported by car to the location of the house to be rebuilt.

This initiative also involved the Municipality of Oleiros and the CCDRC which, once the materials are delivered, are responsible for the reconstruction work on the house.
