BioSmart completed the cleaning of Messines WWTP lagoons | NOV Group

In August, BioSmart – Soluções Ambientais concluded the works relating to the tender “Acquisition of services for the collection, transport and storage/recovery/deposition in the final destination of sludge from the Lagunagem WWTP”, taking place at the WWTP of São Bartolomeu de Messines.

The public procedure, under the responsibility of Águas do Algarve, S.A., had a maximum value of 420 thousand euros, depending on the volume of work actually required, measured in tons of collected sludge.

The work was carried out in two different moments and intercalated, 2021 and 2022, with an initial estimate of 6,000 tons of sludge in the total of the ponds to be intervened.

Through the correct management of the works and the allocation of the necessary equipment and material resources, the period foreseen in the terms of reference (570 days) was shortened by several months.

The services included carrying out the collection, transport and recovery of sludge, including emptying the ponds.

It is emphasized that the WWTP maintained its regular and full operation, ensuring the maintenance and operation of the WWTP treatment systems to ensure the treatment of urban effluents.

This WWTP receives urban effluent and serves the parish of São Bartolomeu de Messines, with its discharge zone in Ribeiro Meirinho.
