Grupo Nov completes the structuring project for an urban corridor in Baixa of Banheira | NOV Group

The contract for the «Structuring of the Urban Corridor on Avenida 1º de Maio in Baixa da Banheira» in Barreiro was awarded by the Municipality of Moita to Lena Engenharia e Construções. The construction area of the Grupo NOV also includes the company NOV Pro Construções.

This specific project started in march 2021 and ended last december 2022, with a final investment of two million euros.

The intervention was carried out in an area of around 5 hectares, and essentially consisted of reprofiling Avenida 1º de Maio, located in Baixa da Banheira, municipality of Moita, thus widening the road corridor through the materialization of a lane of 4-way road on most of the Avenue.

Specifically, the following interventions were carried out: implementation of BUS corridors in both directions of circulation; introduction of a roundabout intersection in order to regulate traffic between Avenida 1º de Maio and Avenida José Almada Negreiros; introduction of an elongated roundabout intersection in order to improve road traffic between Avenida 1º de Maio and Ruas Bordalo Pinheiro and Rua José Gomes Ferreira; placement of a bidirectional cycle path on the north sidewalk of Avenida 1º de Maio, with connection to the Alhos Vedros Railway Station; rearrangement of parking within the intervention zone; improvement of the surrounding public space, with the increase of the sidewalk area, application of new urban furniture, creation of new green spaces and planting of trees.

This intervention allows for better regulation of road traffic, providing an increase in installed capacity as well as an overall increase in road safety. It also favors the urban renewal of the surrounding area, namely adjacent public or private areas.
